Overview
Karaburun is a rugged peninsula on the southwestern Albanian coast, forming the main coastal spine of the Karaburun-Sazan National Marine Park.

The area is protected for its cliffs, caves, clear waters, underwater habitats, cultural traces and marine biodiversity.
Biodiversity
AKZM describes the marine park as containing species of international importance and habitats including coralligenous formations, sea caves, deep rocky coast and freshwater springs entering the sea.
History and Community
Karaburun has long been linked to navigation, fishing, military coastline, inscriptions and underwater cultural heritage, including traces from ancient, medieval and modern periods.
Current Threats
Tourism pressure, boat traffic, waste, unregulated anchoring and possible coastal infrastructure pressures should be monitored carefully.
